Women's Basketball Opens Season at DePauw Tip-off

GAME NOTES

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team has been hard at work this fall preparing for their upcoming season; their first game is just one week away.

The Fightin' Engineers were the unanimous favorite to win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship this season in a preseason poll of league coaches that was announced last month.  A season, ago Head Coach Jon Prevo's squad went 23-4 and had an 18-game winning streak during the course of the year.  

Next week on Friday November 18, the women will hit the hardwood for the first time this season at the DePauw Tip-off Tournament in Greencastle, Indiana.  RHIT's first opponent will be the Texas-Dallas Comets.

Rose-Hulman returns 10 varsity letter winners from last season.  A year ago the Fightin' Engineers boasted the best defense in the Heartland Conference and one of the best defenses in the nation. RHIT ranked 13th nationally in scoring defense allowing just 50.7 points per game.  Rose also ranked 24th nationally in field goal percentage defense.  The Fightin' Engineers held opponents to just a 32.9 field goal percentage.  Opponents also shot just 24.9 percent from three-point range last season.  

Ally Bromenschenkel was named HCAC Freshman of the Year last season and was the team's leading scorer at 8.1 points per game.  Josie SchmidtBrianna Gliesmann and Alyzia Dilworth rounded out the top four scorers last season and all return.  Schmidt joined Bromenschenkel on the all-HCAC team

The Texas-Dallas Comets finished 2015-16 with an overall record of 14-12.  

Game time on Friday November 18 is set for 6 p.m.
