W-Basketball Wins Dorsett Automotive Classic

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball claimed the newly minted Dorsett Automotive Crosstown Classic trophy Monday night after an 85-58 win over crosstown rival St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Rose-Hulman found their offensive stride early in the contest outscoring the Pomeroys 19-7 in the first period of play.  The Fightin' Engineers used a strong second quarter to lead 37-17 at halftime. In the third quarter sophomore Ally Bromenschenkel converted several layups in the paint and Rose-Hulman extended their advantage to 64-36.  St. Mary-Woods would make a handful of threes in the fourth quarter but a balanced RHIT attack kept the Pomeroys at bay.

On the night Ally Bromenschenkel scored a career high 23 points and hauled down 18 rebounds to lead the Fightin' Engineers.  It was her first double-double of the season.  Sophomore Brianna Gliesmann also posted a double-double contributing 15 points and 10 rebound in 12 minutes of action off the bench.  Sophomore Abby Bromenschenkel chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Twelve of the 15 Engineers scored in the contest.

The St. Mary-of-the-Woods offense included nine three-pointers, but the Fightin' Engineers held the Pomeroys to just 25% from the field in the contest.  Callan Taylor led St. Mary-of-the-Woods offense with 10 points.

Rose-Hulman also set a team record for rebounds in a game with 75.

With the win, the Fightin' Engineers improved to 2-1 on the season and St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 2-4.  Their next game will be Saturday November 26 at North Central College.
