TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball schedule with a trip to No. 22 ranked Mount St. Joseph on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 1-2 on the young season, highlighted by an 86-63 over Rust at the Birmingham Southern Tournament on Nov. 20. Sophomore Charlie Aimone leads the offensive scoring at 20.7 points per game, highlighted by 63% shooting fromt he field. Freshman Ryuji Aoki has added 9.0 points per game.
The starting lineup for Rose-Hulman has included Aimone, Stephen Schueth (5.3 ppg), John Czarnecki (4.7 ppg), JT Whitaker (4.3 ppg) and Wade Stallings (2.0 ppg). Aimone recorded the top scoring game for Rose-Hulman this season in a 24-point performance at Wabash on Sunday.
Mount St. Joseph stands 5-1 on the season after falling to Anderson 78-74 in the conference opener on Wednesday night. The team's 5-0 start landed the Lions in the d3hoops.com national top 25 at the No. 22 position, marking the first men's basketball national ranking for Mount St. Joseph.
Andrew Finley leads the team in scoring at 20.7 points per game for an offense that features four starters in double figures. The lineup includes Adam Goetz (14.5 ppg), Erik Edwards (12.8 ppg), Jordan Henry (12.3 ppg) and Holden Hertzel (4.2 ppg).
After Saturday's matchup, Rose-Hulman travels to Franklin College for an in-state conference matchup on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
