TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for Transylvania University and a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball matchup on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Rose-Hulman stands 3-3 overall and 2-1 in HCAC play after a come-from-behind 79-70 win over Bluffton University in the home opener last Saturday. Charlie Aimone scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the second half, and the Fightin' Engineers shot 67% in the final 20 minutes to earn the win. Nick McGrail tied a career-high by scoring 13 points in the victory.
Rose-Hulman won both of its HCAC games last week, defeating Franklin and Bluffton. The only HCAC loss was by a narrow 73-69 margin at preseason league title favorite Mount St. Joseph.
The recent starting lineup has included Stephen Schueth (7.7 ppg); Kyle Steckel (3.6 ppg); Aimone (19.3 ppg); McGrail (6.6 ppg); and John Czarnecki (7.7 ppg).
Transylvania has a 2-4 record and 1-2 in league play. The Pioneers defeated Bluffton and have road losses at Hanover and Anderson on the early conference season. Out of league, Transylvania defeated Thomas More 85-82 to highlight November games.
Alex Jones leads four starters averaging in double figures for Transylvania at 18.2 points per game. Cooper Theobald scores 17.5, Kyle Gullett 14.7 and Spencer McKinney 10.7 to round out the double figure scoring starters.
Transylvania leads the all-time series 17-9, including a 15-8 edge in HCAC games. Rose-Hulman swept both meetings last year, winning 72-63 and 68-60.
After Saturday's matchup, Rose-Hulman retuns home to face Millikin on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
