TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team will host conference foe Franklin College on Wednesday December 7 in their home opener. So far this season the Fightin' Engineers have played their first seven games away from Hulbert Arena.
Through their first seven games the women have compiled an overall record of 5-2 (1-0 HCAC), with wins over Texas-Dallas, North Central (Ill.), and North Park. Rose-Hulman completed a 2-0 road swing in the North Park Classic in Chicago over Thanksgiving Break.
In their most recent contest, the Fightin' Engineers defeated Mount St. Joseph by a final score of 59-23 on Saturday December 3. The 23 points allowed by Rose-Hulman are the fewest allowed by the women's basketball team in a conference game in school history. The effort marks the third fewest points allowed by Rose-Hulman in any women's game as well. Mount St. Joseph was held to just four points in the first half, including just one point in the second quarter.
Franklin College comes into Wednesday's game with a record of 3-3 (1-0 HCAC). The Grizzles won their Heartland Conference opener at Defiance 69-57.
Rose-Hulman has utilized a very balanced attack offensively this season. Ally Bromenschenkel leads RHIT in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. Alyzia Dilworth has contributed 6.6 points and 3.4 boards a game and Josie Schmidt has chipped in 8.1 points and 6.0 rebounds respectively.
Rose-Hulman's biggest strength so far this season has been their defense. The Fightin' Engineers are limiting opponents to just 31.4% shooting from the field and just 24.5% from three-point range. RHIT also has a big advantage on the boards, outrebounding opponents by an average of 12.2 rebounds a game.
Tipoff on Wednesday is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Hulbert Arena.
