TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Bluffton University square off in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball showdown on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
Rose-Hulman stands 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in HCAC play after defeating Franklin 56-48 on Wednesday night. Bluffton is ranked No. 19 nationally and stands a perfect 6-0 this season after handling Earlham 88-54 on Wednesday.
Both teams bring in two of the nation's longest conference winning streaks into the matchup. Rose-Hulman has won 18 consecutive regular season HCAC games dating to a loss at Bluffton last December. Bluffton has won its last 12 games against league competition, including a 52-46 victory over Rose-Hulman in the 2016 conference tournament championship game.
Rose-Hulman comes in with the top scoring defense (50.5 ppg) and top rebounding margin (+12.5 per game) in the HCAC this season. The Fightin' Engineers have held seven of their eight opponents to less than 60 points, including three games allowing less than 50 points.
Sophomore Ally Bromenschenkel leads the Fightin' Engineers in scoring at 14.1 points per game. Josie Schmidt (8.1 ppg), Abby Bromenschenkel (6.9 ppg), Alyzia Dilworth (6.3 ppg) and Abbie Marshall (4.1 ppg) have completed the usual starting lineup.
Bluffton averages 76 points per game and allows just 57 per contest. Macey Sheerer (15.8 ppg), Rachel Beining (15.3 ppg) and Kaycee Rowe (13.8 ppg) have led the balanced offensive attack so far this season.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman returns home to face one of the top NCAA Division III programs in the Midwest, hosting the University of Chicago on Wednesday night.
