VIDEO: POSTGAME INTERVIEW ANDREW STULL

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior pitcher Andrew Stull threw the first Fightin' Engineer no-hitter since 1993 to lead a split of Sunday's season opening doubleheader against nationally ranked Ohio Northern.

Stull faced the minimum 27 batters and allowed no hits, no walks and just one batter to reach on an error in the performance.  He struck out nine and erased the game's only base runner with a double play.

Rose-Hulman won the nightcap 7-0 behind Stull's performance after falling 1-0 in the opener.  The right-hander tossed just 73 pitches for his first career no-hitter and the first since Shawn Brainard no-hit Earlham College in 1993.

The performance also marked the first NCAA Division III no-hitter during the current 2016 season.

Stull's performance is the eighth no-hitter in Rose-Hulman baseball history and the third under head coach Jeff Jenkins.  In addition to Brainard, Dave Gowans tossed a no-hitter against Sewanee in 1992.  Other no hitters were by Bruce Cluskey twice, Doug Zapp, Jim Godwin and Art Nehf in 1911.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman scored all seven runs in the fifth inning.  Two fielding errors opened the rally, and senior Patrick Klima smashed a bases loaded triple to cap the rally and secure enough offensive to support Stull.

Senior Caleb Kissel had a pair of hits, including a double.  Other key contributors offensively included Kody Alayon with a single, one run, one RBI and a stolen base; and Hazen Hamather with a double and one run scored.

Koby Close served as the catcher for Stull's no-hitter and capped the Engineer hits with a single and one run scored.

In the opener, senior Karson Nixon tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run in a narrow 1-0 loss.  Drew Schnitz led the Fightin' Engineer game one offense with a double.

Rose-Hulman and Ohio Northern both stand 1-1 on the season.  The Fightin' Engineers continue their annual Florida trip against Capital on Monday at 2:30 p.m.  Live stats for the Capital game are available HERE.
