TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning before falling short 7-4 against Transylvania University on Sunday at Art Nehf Field.
The Fightin' Engineers relied on two hits, a walk and two fielding errors to start the ninth inning rally. Kameron Schwartz was able to get the final three outs to secure the win for Transylvania.
The Pioneers relied on a 14-hit attack to earn the victory. Taylor Henley hit a three-run home run and had three hits and four RBIs to lead the offense. Trey Simpson added three hits and earned the pitching win by allowing just one hit with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
Rose-Hulman's offense was led by Drew Schnitz with a double and a single. Zach Trusk had one RBI and Kody Alayon pitched in with a single and one run scored.
Transylvania improved to 11-13 overall and 7-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Rose-Hulman stands 16-6 and 8-2 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Tuesday at Franklin College.
