TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Franklin College scored twice in the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and earn a 5-3 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Wednesday night at Art Nehf Field.
Jordan Clark led the Franklin eight-hit attack with three hits, one run scored and one RBI. Jason Simpkins also had two singles for the Grizzlies.
The Rose-Hulman offense featured 10 hits and three players with multiple hits. Senior Patrick Klima tallied two singles and scored once; junior Zach Trusk was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI; and junior Drew Schnitz had a pair of single with one run and one RBI.
Junior Joey Callahan led the Rose-Hulman pitching effort by allowing just one unearned run in 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. Junior Cody Sunderhaus recorded the final four outs with two strikeouts to cap the relief appearances for the Engineers.
Aaron Leming picked up the win with 0.2 innings of scoreless relief for Franklin, before Hayden Cleveland recorded the final six outs for his first save.
Rose-Hulman stands 16-7 overall and remains in first place in the HCAC standings at 8-3. Franklin improved to 10-15 and 5-7 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Bluffton University for three games this weekend.
