FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Four was the magic number as Rose-Hulman and Franklin split a softball doubleheader in central Indiana on Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin scored four runs in the third inning to earn a 4-1 win in the opener.  In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman relied on four runs and a shutout pitching performance to capture a 4-0 victory.

In the opener, sophomore Gabbi Markison led the Rose-Hulman offense with a triple and a single.  Markison scored the lone run for the Engineers on a single, a double by Jenny Miller and a run batted in by Marissa Stout.

Taylor Lockhart went the distance in the pitching circle in game one, allowing just eight hits in the contest.

For Franklin, Megan Lalioff and Savannah Blevins led the game one offense with two hits each.  Lalioff scored one run and Blevins had two RBIs.  Olivia Paszek earned the complete game victory.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman scored in three different innings and two pitchers combined on a shutout in the win.

Miller tossed three shutout innings, allowing two hits, before Lockhart came on with four shutout innings to pick up the victory.

Offensively, sophomore Jessica Will had two singles and scored twice, Stout recorded a double and two RBIs and Miller finished 1-1 with a run and an RBI to lead a seven-hit attack.

Franklin stands 21-11 overall and 6-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Rose-Hulman moved to 11-13 and 2-6 in league play.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Hanover College.
