Softball Falls in Pair of Slugfests

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Greenville College outlasted Rose-Hulman 10-8 and 11-7 to earn a doubleheader sweep in a pair of softball slugfests on Monday night.

In the opener, Bryn McKie and Laney Thacker had four hits each to lead Greenville in a 10-8 victory.  Thacker had a home run and four RBIs, and McKie added a pair of RBIs.

The Rose-Hulman offense featured three home runs and five players with multiple hits.  Senior Marissa Stout, junior Morgan Dreyer and sophomore Michelle Korf all blasted home runs to lead the offensive effort.

Stout finished 2-3 with two RBIs, Jorf was 2-3 with two RBIs, and Dreyer had a home run, a double and two RBIs.

Sophomore Jenny Miller added two singles and one RBI, and sophomore Jessica Will had two hits and scored three runs.

In game two, Miller tied the single-game Rose-Hulman school record with a pair of home runs.  She finished 2-3 on the day with five RBIs and a pair of runs scored.  Korf added her second home run of the day to provide more Rose-Hulman offense.

Greenville had four home runs of its own, with Tiffany Samsoe leading the Panthers offense with three hits and three RBIs.  McKie also had a three-hit performance.

Other key contributors to the Rose-Hulman game two offense included Will with three hits and two runs scored; Gabbi Markison with two hits, one run and one RBI; Stout with two hits and one run scored; and freshman Maddie Struble with two singles.

Greenville improved to 18-18-1, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 12-18.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a home doubleheader against Anderson University on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
