School Records Not Enough as R-H Narrowly Falls

BOX SCORES: GAME ONE / GAME TWO

DECATUR, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology set one school and tied three more school records in a narrow 11-10 softball loss to Millikin University, before falling 12-4 in game two on Tuesday night.

The Fightin' Engineers set a team school record with five home runs in the opener.  Senior Marissa Stout and freshman Maddie Struble tied individual school records with two home runs each, and Stout also tied the single-game school record for RBIs with six in the performance.

Stout blasted two three-run home runs, while Struble added two solo shots to provide significant offense for Rose-Hulman.  Sophomore Jessica Will pitched in with three hits, including a double and two runs scored.  Sophomore Jenny Miller had the fifth home run, a single, scored three times and had two RBIs.

Rose-Hulman rallied from a 4-3 deficit to score four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to gain a 10-9 lead before Millikin rallied with two runs in the seventh to earn the victory.  Kristen Iversen had three hits and scored three runs, including a home run, for the Big Blue.

In the nightcap, Alyssa Visvardis led the Millikin offense with two home runs as the Big Blue earned a 12-4 victory.

Will and sophomore Michelle Korf led the Rose-Hulman offense with home runs.  Korf finished 2-3 with a double and a round tripper, while Will had two hits, one run scored and one RBI.
