TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2017 portion of its women's basketball schedule with a trip to Hanover College on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 9-2 overall and 4-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, highlighted an impressive five-game winning streak in December. Rose-Hulman defeated Mount St. Joseph and Franklin to open the month, knocked off undefeated and nationally ranked Bluffton at Hulbert Arena, then defeated Chicago and Transylvania.
Rose-Hulman finished the 2016 calendar year a perfect 20-0 in HCAC regular season games. The Fightin' Engineers must continue to rely on one of the nation's top defenses if the success will carry over into 2017. Rose-Hulman leads the HCAC and ranks No. 30 nationally by allowing just 50.8 points per game so far this season.
Offensively, sophomore Ally Bromenschenkel continues to lead the Fightin' Engineers in scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). The recent starting lineup has also inlcuded Alyzia Dilworth (7.1 ppg), Abby Bromenschenkel (7.0 ppg), Abbie Marshall (5.5 ppg) and Jenna Queary (2.8 ppg).
Hanvoer comes into the game in second place in the HCAC standings at 3-1 in league play. The Panthers are 5-6 overall after defeating Spalding 92-91 in their most recent game on Dec. 30. Allison Nash leads a balanced Hanover scoring attack at 11.4 points per game. Alexis Nall (8.9 ppg), Malesha Motter (8.7 ppg) and Claire Cromer (8.3 ppg) are also over eight points per game.
After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman hits the road for Manchester University and another HCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
