Rose-Hulman Softball Drops a Pair on Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. - The sun was out and the temperature was hot on Day 2 of RHIT's spring trip down in Florida.  The Fightin' Engineers squared off against Capital University and York College (Pa.) this afternoon.

Capital 5, Rose-Hulman 3 -

In the first game of the day, the Rose-Hulman softball team was edged by the Capital Crusaders by a final score of 5-3. Capital raced out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning but the Fightin' Engineers rallied.  Rose-Hulman got their first run in the top of the 2nd when Michelle Korf scored from second after a hard ground ball from Cassidy Yeomans went under the glove of Capital's second baseman into right field.  In the third, RHIT tied the game up at 3-3 after Morgan Dreyer sliced a two-run double that scored Maddie Struble and Jenny Miller.

Capital answered with runs in the bottom of the third and fourth.  Rose loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but couldn't breakthrough.  In Game 1, RHIT posted 10 hits.

York (Pa.) 5, Rose-Hulman 1 -

The Fightin' Engineers managed only two hits in the second game of the day against York College (Pa.).  Rose jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st after Maddie Struble doubled home Gabbi Markison. Carleigh Ruleman homered and had two RBIs for the Spartans.

Rose-Hulman now stands at 2-2 on the early season.  The Fightin' Engineers will be back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Finlandia and at 11:30 a.m. against St. Mary's (Minn.).
