Rose-Hulman Splits Sunday Twinbill with Carthage

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pounded out 11 hits to win the nightcap of Sunday's baseball doubleheader 7-1, after narrowly falling 2-1 in the opener to Carthage College at Art Nehf Field.

In the opener, Carthage snapped a 1-1 tie with the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh on a single by Zach Wade.  Kevin Tibor came out of the Redmen bullpen with three scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

Senior Zach Trusk led the Rose-Hulman offense with a double, single and the team's lone RBI.  Sophomore David Burnside reached base on a fielding error with two outs in the fifth, then scored on the Trusk double.

Jonathan Banks led the Rose-Hulman pitching performance with five innings and just one run allowed.  Banks surrendered just three hits with two strikeouts in the effort.

In the nightcap, Marcus Wechselberger led Rose-Hulman with two singles, a double, two RBIs and one run scored.  Koby Close and Drew Schnitz pitched in with two hits each, and the duo of Conner Shipley and Trusk scored two runs each.

Ian Grant picked up the win with six strong innings and just one run allowed for the Fightin' Engineers.  He scattered six hits with four strikeouts to pick up the victory.  Clayton Mayfield picked up the final three outs with two strikeouts in the final frame.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a three-game series against Otterbein at Chillicothe, Ohio, next Saturday and Sunday March 18-19.
