Pitching Gems Lead Otterbein Past RHIT Baseball

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Otterbein College relied on two pitching gems to sweep Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 8-0 and 4-0 in a baseball doubleheader on Saturday at VA Stadium.

In the opener, Craig Prince allowed just two hits with 10 strikeouts in eight innings of work to lead the Otterbein pitching effort.  Stephan Hernon finished 4-4 with three RBIs, a home run and a double to lead the Cardinals offense.

Four Rose-Hulman players had one hit each in the opener.  Davis Robeson, Zach Trusk, Drew Schnitz and Marcus Wechselberger recorded singles for the Fightin' Engineers.

In the nightcap, Otterbein's Stevie Yuran improved to 3-1 on the season with seven shutout innings, scattering seven hits with five strikeouts.  Ben Beachy and Bryan Stopar had three hits each, and Hernon recorded a double and three RBIs.

The Rose-Hulman offense featured Robeson and Schnitz with two singles each.  Wechselberger also had a double for the Fightin' Engineers.  Ian Grant allowed three earned runs in 6.2 innings of work with five strikeouts, before Clayton Mayfield recorded the final four outs without allowing a run.

Otterbein improved to 10-3 overall, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 2-9.  The Fightin' Engineers and Cardinals conclude their three-game series with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
