TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Hanover College scored three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to earn a 5-4 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the opener of a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball series on Friday night.
Hanover scored three runs in the seventh to knot the score, then relied on an RBI bloop single by Chase Sizemore to plate the eventual winning run. David Blanco tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the victory for the Panthers.
The Rose-Hulman offense featured Conner Shipley, David Burnside and Ryan Stachowski with two hits each. Shipley had a single and double with one run scored, Burnside contributed a single, double and one run, while Stachowski had two singles and scored twice.
Cody Sunderhaus tossed seven strong innings in a no-decision with eight strikeouts to leave in a 4-4 tie. Clayton Mayfield added two scoreless innings in relief with one strikeout for the Fightin' Engineer pitching effort.
Hanover improved to 12-6 and 3-3 in league play, while Rose-Hulman fell to 4-13 and 2-3 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers and Panthers conclude their series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
