RHIT Narrowly Falls at Manchester Thursday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology narrowly fell in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Manchester University.

In game one of the day the Fightin' Engineers dropped a heartbreaking 9-8 decision in eight innings.  Manchester scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the bottom of the second inning but RHIT exploded for eight runs of their own in the top of the third.  Morgan Dreyer got the scoring started for Rose-Hulman as she singled to left center, plating a pair of runs.  Cydney Ogan then followed with a RBI single.  After a pair of flyouts, Jessica Will beat out an infield single that scored the third run for Rose.  Following a RBI single from Gabbi Markison, the big blast of the inning was provided by freshman Cassidy Yeomans.  Yeomans connected on her first collegiate home run, a three-run homer to left center, and her second hit of the inning.

Sadly the lead did not last for the Fightin' Engineers as the Spartans rallied for six runs of their own in the bottom of the third.  The game would go into extra innings, with Manchester coming out as the victors.  Kate Skeens provided MU with a walk-off single.

In game two of the day, the RHIT offense was held in check and Manchester would go on to sweep the doubleheader by a final score of 5-0.

Rose-Hulman mustered only one hit in game two and that hit was provided by Yeomans who finished the entire day 3-6 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a home run.

The Fightin' Engineers fell to 9-15 on the season.  Rose-Hulman will return home this weekend, Saturday April 15 for a doubleheader against HCAC foe Mount St. Joseph.  First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
