Softball Splits Sunday Twinbill with Oberlin

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team split a doubleheader on Easter Sunday at home against the Oberlin College Yeowomen.

The Fightin' Engineers took game one of the day by a final score of 8-3.  In game one RHIT pounded out 12 hits.  Freshman Cassidy Yeomans got the scoring started for RHIT in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving a two-run home run to left center field.  For Yeomans it was her second home run of the season and second home run this week.

Oberlin would draw within a run late in the game at 2-1 but the Fightin' Engineers used a six -run bottom of the sixth inning to seal the victory.  Morgan Dreyer and Maddie Struble both picked up RBIs in the inning but the big hit of the frame came from Michelle Korf.  Korf ripped a two-run single to center to put Rose-Hulman in front 8-1.

Korf recorded her sixth win of the season by scattering 10 hits and allowing just the three runs.  She also struck out three batters.

In game two, the offense came alive for Oberlin.  The Yeowomen scored 14 runs on the strength of 17 hits to defeat the Engineers by a final score of 14-5 in five innings.

For Rose, Michelle Korf drove in two more runs.  Maddie Struble connected on a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for RHIT.  It was the second home run  of the season for Struble.

Rose-Hulman will be back in action this Wednesday April 19, hosting Illinois College in a non-conference doubleheader at the Rose-Hulman Softball Field.
