Big Inning Leads Rose-Hulman Past Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a five-run sixth inning to take control of a tight game and top Anderson University 11-5 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth, the Fightin' Engineers put up five runs to gain breathing room.  Drew Schnitz and Conner Shipley had the key hits of the rally with RBI singles.

The lead grew to 11-4 in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Ryan Stachowski.  The Fightin' Engineers relied on solid pitching by allowing just one run in the last seven innings to secure the win.

Shipley led the Rose-Hulman offense with four singles, two runs scored and one RBI.  David Burnside added three hits, three RBIs and a two-run double. Schnitz and Marcus Wechselberger had two hits each, and Stachowski provided his first college home run to balance the offensive attack.

Jonathan Banks picked up the win with a solid pitching effort, allowing just two earned runs in six innings of work.  He scattered seven hits with three strikeouts to pick up his third win of the season.  Chuck Alexa, Stone Brogan and Chris Sokoloff pitched scoreless innings to complete the game.

Rose-Hulman maintained a one-game lead in the HCAC standings with today's win, improving to 15-5 in league play.  Anderson dropped to 7-13 in conference games.  The Fightin' Engineers head to Manchester University for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
