NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Manchester University completed a doubleheader sweep over Rose-Hulman to open a three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series, after the second game was finished Sunday afternoon due to darkness.

Manchester won a rain delayed opener of the doubleheader 7-2.  In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman rallied to within 9-8 before stranding the tying run on second base in the ninth in the completion of a suspended game.

In the opener, Manchester scored three runs in the first inning and twice more in the fourth to capture a 7-2 victory.  Braxton Riley, Chad Schultz and Tailur Szarenski led the Manchester offense with two hits each.

Brandon Eck relied on a strong eight-inning pitching performance to pick up the win for Manchester.  Eck allowed six hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Conner Shipley led the Rose-Hulman offense with three singles and one run scored.  Brian Thomas added a pair of singles.  Cody Sunderhaus allowed just three earned runs in seven innings on the mound.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman pounded out 18 hits but Manchester relied on three multiple-run innings to pick up a 9-8 win.

Davis Robeson, Drew Schnitz and Zach Trusk led the game two offense with three hits each. Robeson scored one run, Schnitz scored twice with two RBIs, and Trusk added three hits, one run and one RBI.

Players with two hits each included Ryan Stachowski with two singles and one run, and Koby Close with two singles and one RBI.

Tyler LaFollette led six Manchester multiple-hit players with three singles, two runs and two RBIs in game two.  Cory Ferguson pitched the final four innings over the two days to secure the Spartans win.

Manchester stands 17-18 overall and 14-8 in league play, while Rose-Hulman has a mark of 17-18 and 15-7 in conference games entering the series finale at 12:40 p.m. Sunday.
