Rose-Hulman, Webster Battle to Twinbill Split

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology battled to an offensive minded doubleheader split against Webster University on Thursday night.

Webster won the opener 10-4, before Rose-Hulman scored six runs in the first and five in the fifth in a 13-6 victory in the nightcap.

The Rose-Hulman game two offense featured 13 hits, including a pair of home runs. Morgan Dreyer finished 3-4 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a home run.  Gabbi Markison added a 2-3 performance with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Other offensive standouts in the game two win included Michelle Korf with two singles, two RBIs and one run scored; Jessica Thuer with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI; Jessica Will with a double and two runs scored and Maddie Struble with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.

Baylee Sparks picked up the complete game pitching victory in the circle in the nightcap.  Sparks held the Gorloks to just one run, outside of a five-run fifth inning.

In the opener, Webster scored six times to break open a 4-4 tie and earn a 10-4 victory.  Struble had three hits and scored once, and Jenny Miller blasted a home run with two RBIs.  Cassidy Yeomans also had a pair of RBIs in the opener, while Will contributed two hits.

Katlyn Garza led the Webster game one offense with a 4-4 performance including a home run and four RBIs.

The two teams also competed in the Go4TheGoal foundation contest, which Rose-Hulman wore gold shoelaces as part of a fundraising effort. Lace up 4 Pediatric Cancer started in 2011 and since then professional, college, and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for kids battling cancer in their communities.  Go4theGoal is a partner of the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers (APOSW) and the foundation works directly with patient social workers to provide immediate support that best assists individual families, whether that is assistance with bills, travel expenses, special gifts or experiences to lift the patient's spirits.

Rose-Hulman returns to action in its Senior Day home game against Bluffton University on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The weekend also includes a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Franklin.
