Fightin' Engineers Roll to Big Win 7-1 at Principia

ELSAH, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team picked up an early season, non-conference road win on Tuesday night by defeating the Prinicipia College Panthers by a final score of 7-1.

The Engineer offense broke out in a big way against the Panthers.  RHIT outshot PC by a final count of 34 to 1.  21 of the 34 shot attempts were on goal for the Fightin' Engineers.

Rose-Hulman scored early and often in the contest.  Senior Madeline Romeo got things started offensively scoring her first goal of the season in the ninth minute off a pass from Lauren London.  Romeo was involved on the next two RHIT goals, assisting on sophomore Jessica Wells' and senior Stef Panzenhagen's first goals of the season.  Those two goals were scored jus 45 seconds apart in the 23rd minute.  Rose-Hulman led 3-0 at the intermission.

The offense continued to click in the second frame as Jessica Wells netted her second goal of the evening in the 53rd minute.  Junior Lauren London picked up the assist on the Wells goal.  In the 56th minute Maddy Twetten scored on a pass from Wells that pushed Rose's advantage to 5-0.  Wells would complete a hat trick, netting her third goal of the evening in the 68th minue.  A goal by Desiree Bell in the 81st minute would round out the scoring on Tuesday night.

Rose-Hulman improved to 2-3-0 in 2017 while Principia fell to 1-4-0.  RHIT will have a quick turnaround as the Fighin' Engineers will play host to DePauw University on Thursday evening.  Thursday's affair serves a special purpose as it is the 2017 Grey Matters Awareness Game.  The game is held to honor those among the 700,000 individuals in the United States battling brain cancer.  Kickoff from Intramural Field is set for 7 PM.
