TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman men's soccer team picked up a key, non-conference win on Saturday afternoon after the Fightin' Engineers defeated the Millikin Big Blue by a final score of 2-1 at Intramural Field.
The Engineers got on the scoreboard early in the contest. Junior Will McGowen was able to fire a shot from inside the box into the back of the net for his second goal of 2017. Freshman Chris Fusaro and Austin Webb picked up the assists on the goal.
Millikin would tie the game up later in the first half. In the 24 minute, Michael Longo's corner kick was headed into the back of the net by Bradyn Nokes.
Rose-Hulman would recapture the lead before halftime as Chris Fusaro would score his first goal in a Fightin' Engineer uniform in the 33rd minute. Perkins picked up his second assist of the afternoon on Fusaro's goal.
After leading 2-1 at the break, Rose-Hulman could not extend its lead in the second half. The Engineers had a few chances but several shot attempts sailed wide of the goal.
For the match, Millikin out shot Rose-Hulman 12 to 8. Rose-Hulman goalie Michael Lawrence collected five saves in his second win of the season.
Rose-Hulman will have a tough week ahead of them. The Engineers will play at in-state rival DePauw on Wednesday September 20. Kickoff from Greencastle is set for 7 PM.
