Rose-Hulman Rolls Past Westminster (Mo.) 4-2 on Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned a 4-2 victory Sunday afternoon against the visiting Westminster College Blue Jays out at Intramural Field.

The Blue Jays got off to a fast start, scoring the game's first two goals.  Gracie Koonce scored her third goal of the season off of a pass from Paige Townsend in the 4th minute.  Then Townsend netted her team-leading eighth goal of the year in the 17th minute to push the Blue Jays' advantage to 2-0.

Rose-Hulman did not panic the Fightin' Engineers began their comeback.  Sophomore Jessica Wells got RHIT on the scoreboard with her fourth goal of the year in the 33rd minute to bring the Engineers within one.  Just two minutes later senior Stef Panzenhagen's excellent cross was headed past the Westminster goalie by senior Madeline Romeo, tying the game at two.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman took the lead when sophomore Maddy Twetten fired a shot high into the back corner of the net. It was her fourth goal of 2017.  Maggie Sheerin collected an assist on Twetten's goal.  The Fightin' Engineers got some insurance late in the game when Madeline Romeo struck for her second goal of the game in the 85th minute.   Junior Lauren London assisted on the Romeo goal.

Senor goalie Carli Weinberg saved six shots in the game and made a pair of game-saving stops late in the second half that preserved Rose's slim lead.

Rose-Hulman (3-6-0) will return to action on Saturday September 30 when the team travels to Transylvania to open up Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Play.  Kickoff from Lexington, Ky. is set for 1 pm.
