TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Kirby Kern scored with 12 minutes left in regulation to lead the Fightin' Engineers past Greenville University 1-0 in the women's soccer home opener on Tuesday night.
Kern booted home the goal courtesy of a pass from Maddy Twetten. Senior Carli Weinberg picked up the shutout and the victory in goal with three saves.
Rose-Hulman outshot Greenville 6-4 in the contest. Kern was joined by Madeline Romeo with two shots each. The Fightin' Engineer defense was also steady by holding the Panthers to two shots in each half.
Rose-Hulman improved to 1-2 on the season, while Greenville dropped to 1-1. The Fightin' Engineers travel to defending NCAA Division III national champion Washington University (Mo.) on Thursday night.
