Rose-Hulman Falls at #1 Washington (Mo.) 2-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rose-Hulman went toe-to-toe with the defending national champions and No. 1-ranked team in the nation for one half of play Thursday night.  When the final horn sounded, Washington University walked away with a hard-fought 2-0 victory.

The Fightin' Engineers didn't attempt a shot in the first half, but they were able to prevent the Bears, who are unbeaten in their last 16 contests dating back to last season, from putting a shot into the back of the net.

Senior goalie Carli Weinberg was active for the entire 90 minutes of play, recording 11 saves in the loss.

The Bears got second half goals from Caroline Dempsey (49th minute), and Rachel Mickelson (73rd minute).

No. 1 Washington improved to 2-0-0 on the young season while RHIT fell to 1-3-0.  Rose-Hulman returns to the pitch on Tuesday September 12 when the Engineers travel to Elsah, Illinois to play the Principia College Panthers.  Kickoff at Principia is set for 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET).
