RICHMOND, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play following their eighth-straight victory. Rose-Hulman defeated in-state rival Earlham College 45-23 on Saturday afternoon.
Earlham jumped out to a 5-4 lead midway through the first quarter but the Fightin' Engineers concluded the opening frame on an 11-1 run. Defense was the theme throughout the contest as the two teams combined for just 18 points in the second quarter. At the intermission Rose-Hulman led 23-16.
The Fightin' Engineer defense limited the Quakers to just seven points in the entire second half. For the game EC was held to 15.7% (8-51) shooting. Earlham was held to 14.3% (3-21) shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
Rose-Hulman outrebounded their opponent 46-36 and came away with 9 steals. The Quakers turned the ball over 18 times in the game.
Junior Ally Bromenschenkel led Rose with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Chiarra Franklin finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The win on Saturday was the eight-straight victory for Rose-Hulman. The Fightin' Engineers improved to 10-3, 6-0 HCAC while Earlham fell to 1-12, 1-5 HCAC. Rose-Hulman will be back in action on Wednesday January 10 at Franklin College at 7:30 p.m.
