Engineers Fall Short in Season Opener Against Oglethorpe

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers opened their 2018-19 season Saturday night against the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University.  The Engineers came up short in a hard fought battle with a final score of 70-56. 

Abby Bromenschenkel lead the Engineers in scoring with a career high 21 points. She also ended the night with 6 steals and 4 rebounds.  Ally Bromenschenkel reached double figures with 13 points and 7 rebounds.  Debie Gedeon also had a productive night tying her career high in scoring with 11 points, 3 assists, and 7 rebounds.  

The Engineers struggled defensively against Oglethorpe in the beginning of the game as the Stormy Petrels were able to build a lead early.  Rose-Hulman would trail at the end of the first quarter 23-12.  Abby was able to get the offense going scoring 8 points in the second quarter for the Engineers.  Rose-Hulman cut the lead to only eight points with the score at 39-31 going into halftime.  Abby led the team offensively through two quarters with 11 points.

Rose-Hulman came out of the locker room energized.  They were able to decrease the deficit to just four points two minutes into the third quarter.  The Stormy Petrels continued to thrive offensively, and built their lead back up going into the final quarter of play with the score at 52-42.  The Engineers fought hard, but ultimately were defeated by Oglethorpe with a final score of 70-56.  

The Engineers stand at 0-1 and will continue the Birmingham Southern Tip-off Tournament tomorrow facing off with Birmingham Southern at 4:00 PM CT (5:00 PM ET).
