Five Engineers Reach Double Digits in Win Against the Panthers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers finish up the Birmingham Southern Tip-off Tournament with a win against the Birmingham Southern Panthers on Sunday.  The Engineers defeated the Panthers with a final score of 69-54. 

Rose-Hulman ended the game shooting 49.1% from field goal range and 50% from three-point range.  The team was also able to out rebound the Panthers 41-34. 

Five Engineers were able to reach double digits in scoring in the team win.  Ally Bromenschenkel lead the team with 17 points, 2 assists, and 13 rebounds.  Abby Bromenschenkel was named to the All-Classic team for her performances this weekend and finished the night with 12 points, 10 assists, and 9 rebounds.  Debie Gedeon was able to record a career high 12 points while Sophie Brooks and Kayla Gerken were able to tie their career highs also with 12 points each.

The 10 assists recorded by Abby Bromenschenkel marked the first time a Rose-Hulman women's basketball player has achieved double-figure assists in a game since 2008.

Rose-Hulman found themselves in an even matchup early with the Panthers.  They would trail to Birmingham Southern at the end of the first quarter with the score at 15-11. Multiple players were able to get involved for the Engineers offensively in the second quarter.  After tying the score at 15-15, the Engineers began to build a lead of their own.  Rose-Hulman would lead going into halftime with the score at 31-27.  Abby would lead the team in scoring with 8 points at the end of the first half.  

Birmingham Southern came to within two points of the Engineers lead midway through the third quarter.  Brooks was able to catch fire in the second half going 4-5 on field goals and 2-2 from three point range to help the Engineers maintain their lead.  Rose-Hulman would stand ahead 45-39 going into the final quarter of play.  The Engineers would hold the lead for the rest of the contest to defeat the Panthers with a final score of 69-54.

The Engineers stand at 1-1 and will return to action on Tuesday, 11/20 as they travel to face Rhodes College at 6:00 PM CT (7:00 PM ET).
