DEFIANCE, Ohio-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers came away with a win in their first conference matchup of the season against the Defiance College Yellow Jackets with a final score of 61-53. This gives the Engineers their fourth win of the season and improves the team's overall record to 4-3 and HCAC record to 1-0.
Ally Bromenschenkel was able to record a double-double and lead the team in scoring with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Kayla Gerken ended the night with a career high in scoring and rebounds with 18 points and 9 rebounds. The rest of the starters were able to make an impact offensively as well; Abby Bromenschenkel (7), Debie Gedeon (7), Hannah Woody (7).
Rose-Hulman found themselves in a tight contest with the Yellow Jackets. After multiple lead changes, the Engineers were able to jump ahead 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. Defiance would continue to play tough and keep the score within reach.
The Yellow Jackets would get a bucket in the final minute of the second quarter to stand ahead 25-24 as the game headed to halftime. Ally Bromenschenkel was able to lead the Engineers in scoring in the first half with 8 points.
The game continued to be highly competitive in the second half. Defiance would hold the lead with a three point cushion at the end of the third quarter 45-42. Rose-Hulman would take control of the game in the final quarter. They were able to outscore Defiance 18-9 to secure the win with a final of 61-53.
The Engineers finished the night shooting 40.0% from the field and 85.0% from the free throw line.
The Engineers stand at 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC so far this season and will continue conference competition hosting Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, 12/5 at 7:00 PM.
