CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team returns home to Terre Haute with a 5-5 record after falling in a pair of games on Friday to cap its annual Florida trip.
The Fightin' Engineers fell to Neumann (Pa.) and Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in a pair of contests early Friday.
In the opener, Neumann relied on two big innings to top Rose-Hulman 13-4. Neumann scored five times in the third inning and four times in the fifth to secure the win.
Grace Sperrassa, Bri Lagroteria and Taylor Sirolli led the Neumann offense with three hits each, and Kristina Del Gaiso had five RBIs.
The Rose-Hulman offense was led by Gabbi Markison, Jenny Miller and Bryly Shipman with two hits each. Markison blasted a home run and had two RBIs, while Miller and Shipman each had doubles for the Engineers.
Against Johnson & Wales, Miller was locked in a scoreless pitching duel for the first seven innings. Johnson & Wales scored three times in the eighth to capture the win.
Jene Williams led the game two offense with a double, and Mandi Routon added a single for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman returns to Indiana with a 5-5 record and will travel to Eureka on March 17. The Fightin' Engineers will open the home schedule against Spalding on March 18.
