Buehler Pitching Gem Leads RHIT to Split at Webster Invitational

SAUGET, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Luke Buehler tossed a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Fightin' Engineer performance in a split of two games at the Webster University Baseball Invitational on Sunday.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman relied on Buehler and timely hitting for a 4-1 win over host Webster, ranked No. 14 in the latest ABCA poll and No. 22 nationally by D3baseball.com this week.  The sophomore left-hander allowed just three singles with no walks and five strikeouts in the complete game performance to pick up the victory.

Offensively, Ryan Stachowski led the offense with a two-run home run to give Rose-Hulman a 3-0 advantage in the third inning.  Logan Cody added two singles, one run scored and one RBI.

Other key offensive contributors in game one included David Burnside with a double and an RBI; and Conner Helbling with a single and one run scored.

In the nightcap, three Wartburg pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Knights defeated Rose-Hulman 3-0.  Wartburg relied on single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings, along with four players recording two hits each.

Brian Thomas led the Rose-Hulman game two offense with a double.  Clayton Mayfield allowed just one earned run in five innings of work with six strikeout, and relievers Chuck Alexa and Stone Brogan did not surrender an earned run in the final three innings.

Rose-Hulman returns home to face Wabash College in non-conference action on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
