SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for 10 event wins in a strong performance at the Wittenberg University Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The men's squad won the 12-team meet with 188.5 points, outdistanding Wabash (108) and Wittenberg (86). The women's squad came home sixth as a team.
On the men's side, five individuals and one relay team brought home top honors. Trey Sykes led the way with a sweep of the long jump (21' 10 1/4") and triple jump (46' 1 1/4"). Other individual winners included Josh Hennig in the 400-meters; Josh Himes, who led a 1-2-3 team finish in the discus (151' 11"); Cameron Prisby in the pole vault (14' 5 1/2"); and Nathan Schrader with the fourth-best javelin throw in school history (184' 9").
The men's 4-x-400 relay also brought home first-place honors, as David Borden, Aaron Lannoy, John Evans and Hennig won in 3:22.53.
Gabi Razma led the women's performance with two wins, one second place and one third-place effort. Razma won the 400-meters (1:00.56) and triple jump (36' 4"), finished second in the javelin (109' 3") and came home third in the long jump (16' 10 3/4"). Jaclyn Setina added a victory in the high jump with a leap of 5' 1 3/4".
Men's runner-up efforts included the men's 4-x-100 meter team of Dawson Allen, Sykes, Kristian Zadlo and Hennig in a time of 43.61 seconds. Palmer came home second in the pole vault with a mark of 14' 0", and Eric Fiacable was second in the discus (142' 11").
Third-place finishers included Alton Anspaugh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:55.06); Lannoy in the 1500 (4:06.24); Matt Hill in the 5,000 (15:16.69); Josh Himes in the shot put (49' 2 1/2"); Jonah Yates in the discus (141' 6"); and Zadlo in the pole vault (12' 0").
The Fightin' Engineers return to action at the DePauw Invitational on April 7.
