Baseball Falls in Saturday Opener; Game Two Rained Out

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Mount St. Joseph relied on three home runs to pick up a 6-2 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday night.

Nathan Hunter, Luke Bowman and Garrett Hogan hit the round trippers for the Lions as an originally scheduled doubleheader was reduced to one game.

For Rose-Hulman, Davis Robeson led the offense with a triple and one RBI.  Zach Donnelly added a single and scored once, and David Burnside had an RBI single to balance the Rose-Hulman offense.

The nightcap of the HCAC opening doubleheader was cancelled due to rain and will not be rescheduled due to conference rules.

Mount St. Joseph improved to 10-8 and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 5-13 and 0-1 in league games.  The Fightin' Engineers return to conference play at home on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Earlham.
