TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Rose-Hulman honored its four seniors prior to first pitch on Wednesday before squaring off with Manchester.
Game 1 - Manchester 12, Rose-Hulman 10
Rose-Hulman got off to a hot start on Senior Day but the Spartans rallied late to take game one of Wednesday's doubleheadern against the Fightin' Engineers.
RHIT got off to a 4-0 start behind seniors
Gabbi Markison and
Jessica Will. Markison led off the home half of the 1st with a solo home run to right.
Alexis Price followed with a two-run single later in the inning. Will smacked a run-scoring triple to the left field corner to pace the Rose-Hulman offense early.
Manchester scored a pair in the top of the 4th but Rose-Hulman answered right back with a pair of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Jessica Will picked up another RBI following a ground out to second and
Mandi Routon drew a bases loaded walk to push Rose's lead to 6-2.
The Spartans again pecked away at the RHIT lead, scoring three in the 5th. Rose-Hulman promptly answered with four runs in the bottom of the 5th frame.
Gabbi Markison got the rally started with a RBI single.
Jessica Will followed with a two-run double to the gap in right center.
Maddie Struble capped the RHIT offense with a RBI ground out to short.
The Spartans made a furious push late. MU scored seven runs in the top of the 6th to come away with a 12-10 win.
Game 2 - Manchester 8, Rose-Hulman 0
The Spartans picked up right where they left off in the second game of the evening. MU plated four runs in the top of the 1st and never relinquished the lead. Manchester scored four more runs in the top of the 4th.
The Fightin' Engineers fell to 7-17 on the season. Manchester moved to .500 at 14-14. RHIT will host Eureka College tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader at the Rose-Hulman Softball Field.
