CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the season with third-place finishes at the Indiana Division III Meet, hosted by Wabash College on Saturday.
DePauw captured the men's title by outdistancing Wabash, Rose-Hulman, Hanover and Manchester. On the women's side, DePauw also took top honors, followed by Hanover, Rose-Hulman and Manchester.
The Fightin' Engineer men won three events on the day.  Brendan King won the 200-freestyle in a time of 1:47.39.  Derick Miller captured the 100-butterfly in 52.03 seconds. The 200-medley relay team of Ryan Nikolic, Miller, Jared Brown and Dutch Kipp also came home first in 1:38.27.
Elisa Weber paced the women's performance with a runner-up finish in the 100-breaststroke in 1:16.30.
On the men's side, William Kemp had a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-backstroke (55.33) and 200-individual medley (2:04.83). Other runner-up finishers included Brown in the 50-freestyle (21.73); Kipp in the 100-freestyle (49.43); Logan McLaughlin in the 200-backstroke (2:00.24); Miller in the 200-butterfly (2:01.17); and the 400-freestyle relay team (3:12.72).
The women's squqad combined for six third-place finishers. Individual third-place honorees included Parker Brady in the 200-backstroke (2:27.29); Brooke Covert in the 200-butterfly (2:39.88); Natalija Pumpurs in the 500-freestyle (5:51.00); and Weber in the 200-individual medley (2:28.18). The 200-medley (2:00.82) and 400-freestyle (4:15.53) relays were also awarded third-place points.
On the men's side, third-place finishers included Brown in the 100-freestyle (49.50); Kipp in the 50-freestyle (22.03); and Ethan Park in the 100-individual medley (58.17).
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet on Saturday at Purdue University.
