LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Nationally ranked Transylvania University captured the victory in a matchup of the last two unbeaten teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball standings, earning a 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 win over Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon.
Ellie Stigger led Transylvania with 15 kills, and Hannah Talkers had 34 assists with 13 digs to lead the Pioneer effort. Transylvania improved to 20-4 and 5-0 in HCAC play after earning a No. 21 national ranking from the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week.
Elizabeth Canon had seven kills, and Riley Woodruff recorded six to lead the Rose-Hulman offense. Katie Orbeta had 16 assists, and Eryn Castaneda contributed 11.
Katryna Dahlberg had 14 digs, and Maria Bruner joined Orbeta with a team-high three blocks. Gabrielle Gilbertson led the Engineers with two service aces.
Rose-Hulman had its overall seven-game winning streak snapped and stands 12-13 overall and 4-1 in HCAC play. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
