Balanced Scoring Leads No. 23 Chicago Past RHIT Women's Basketball

CHICAGO, Ill. -- No. 23 ranked Chicago placed three players in double figures to earn a 74-53 women's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday night at the Ratner Center.

Miranda Burt led the Maroons with 20 points.  Klaire Steffens added 15 points, and Mia Farrell also reached double figures with 11 points for Chicago.

Senior Hannah Woody led Rose-Hulman with a career-high 19 points.  Woody finished 8-18 from the field and also had career-high totals of six rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Nola Wilson and freshman Desirae Webster also reached double figures for the Engineers.  Wilson scored 12 points with two rebounds.  Webster had 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. 

Chicago shot 40% from the field and hit 13-of-14 from the free throw line to take control of the contest.  Rose-Hulman shot 41% for the game and were led in rebounding by Woody, Nosa Igiehon and Rose Burnham with six rebounds each.

Chicago held just a six-point lead after the first quarter at 23-17 before the Maroons had a 25-point second quarter to build a 48-27 halftime lead.  The two teams matched points with 26 each in the second half.

Chicago improved to 5-2 on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-2.  The Fightin' Engineers will compete in the Midwest Challenge in St. Louis this weekend.  Rose-Hulman faces No. 21 Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, then will compete against either No. 11 DePauw or Washington University on Sunday.
