LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swimming and diving teams combined to win 20 events at the five-team Transylvania Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the University of Kentucky Natatorium.
The Rose-Hulman men outdistanced the competition to win the team scoring with 990 points. Milligan came in second at 597, followed by Transylvania in third at 380. Transylvania captured the women's team title, followed by Milligan, Hanover, Rose-Hulman and Wittenberg.
Brendan King led the individual performances with three event victories. King won the 200-freestyle (1:43.37), 200-butterfly (1:55.73) and 500-freestyle (4:46.14). Â
Jared Brown added two individual victories for the men, winning the 50-freestyle (20.99) and 100-freestyle (46.31). Other individual winners included William Kemp in the 400-individual medley (4:14.92), Dutch Kipp in the 200-individual medley (1:57.07); Logan McLaughlin in the 200-backstroke (1:54.62); Derick Miller in the 100-butterfly (51.44); and Shamus Sparling in the 1650-freestyle (16:56.02).
On the women's side, Elisa Weber led individual efforts with two event wins. Weber swept both the 200-individual medley (2:15.43) and 400-individual medley (4:43.67) titles. Â
The Fightin' Engineers also swept the two diving titles, with Michelle Reese winning 1-meter (407.50 points) and Michaela Kivett winning 3-meter (415.55).
The men's squads also won all five relay events. The 200-freestyle team of Kipp, King, McLaughlin and Brown won in 1:24.96. The 200-medley relay team of Ryan Nikolic, Ethan Park, Brown and Kipp won in 1:35.95. The 400-freestyle squad of Kipp, King, McLaughlin and Brown won in 3:07.87. The 800-freestyle team of McLaughlin, Tate, Kipp and King won in 7:09.61.
The women's relay events were highlighted by a win in the 800-freestyle relay. The team of Weber, Natalija Pumpurs, Parker Brady and Hailey Heidecker captured first-place honors in 8:25.08.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Friday Jan. 10 with a meet at DePauw University. The home schedule kicks off Saturday Jan. 11 against Illinois Wesleyan.
