Rose-Hulman Baseball Knocks Off Previously 13-1 Fontbonne 11-10

VIDEO: WATCH THE GAME WINNING PLAY AT THE PLATE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore right fielder Harris Camp threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end a dramatic baseball matchup, as the Fightin' Engineers knocked off previously 13-1 Fontbonne University 11-10 on Tuesday night at Art Nehf Field.

Rose-Hulman led 11-8 after eight innings, and the visiting Griffins rallied to close within 11-10 with two outs in the ninth.  Jackson Penrod lined a single into right field, and pinch runner Gunnison Heine attempted to score the tying run.  Camp made a strong throw to catcher Shane Garner, who applied the game ending tag to secure the victory.

The game ending play made a winner of relief pitcher Stone Brogan, who tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.  Matthew Rouse allowed no earned runs in 4.2 innings of work, Quintin Bynum tossed a scsoreless eighth, and Adam Taylor picked up the final two outs to lead the Rose-Hulman pitching effort.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman had 11 hits on the day to pick up the win.  The Fightin' Engineers relied on a 5-run third inning before Fontbonne rallied to lead 8-7.  Rose-Hulman answered with two runs in the seventh to take a 9-8 lead, and a key two-run single by Garner pushed Rose-Hulman's lead to 11-8 and provided the insurance needed to hold off a late rally.

Individually, David Burnside finished 3-4 with a double, three runs scored and one RBI to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.  Garner was 2-2 with two RBIs, and Zach Witonsky also had two hits and two RBIs.  Brian Pershing scored twice, and the trio of Camp, Logan Cody and Ryan Stachowski each had one hit and scored one run.

Matt Tossick led the Fontbonne offense with a double, triple and five RBIs.

Rose-Hulman improved to 7-5, while Fontbonne dropped to 13-2.  The Fightin' Engineers return home Saturday to face Milwaukee School of Engineering and Carroll (Wis.) in games at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
