Rose-Hulman Baseball Sweeps MSOE & Carroll; Two More Games Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened its final 2019 Fightin' Engineer Baseball Invitational with a convincing Saturday sweep at Art Nehf Field.

In the opener, Rose-Hulman defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 8-2. Luke Buehler improved to 3-0 on the season with 7.2 innings of strong work.  Buehler allowed just five hits with six strikeouts to keep his earned run average at 0.74 for the season.  Stone Brogan picked up the final four outs for the saves.

Conner Shipley led the Rose-Hulman offense with four hits, including a double, with one run scored and one RBI. 

Luke Calabrese and Sean Casey added multiple-hit games with two hits each.  Calabrese had two RBIs and scored one run, while Casey recorded a double and scored once.  Luke Kluemper and David Burnside each contributed one hit and one run to the performance.

Rose-Hulman led 5-0 after six innings, before MSOE scored both of its runs in the eighth.  The Fightin' Engineers scored three more times in the eighth to provide its final margin of victory.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman pounded out 18 hits and scored nine runs in the final two innings to secure an 18-8 win over Carroll.

Conner Helbling led the Fightin' Engineer offense with four hits, including a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored.  Brian Pershing contributed three hits, three RBIs and scored twice.  

Five other Rose-Hulman players had multiple-hit games in the nightcap.   Shipley had two singles, two runs and one RBI; Davis Robeson contributed two singles, two runs and two RBIs; Logan Cody added two singles, two runs and one RBI; Josh Mesenbrink had a single and a double; and Harris Camp pitched in a single, double, two RBIs and one run.

Clayton Mayfield picked up the win with five innings of work.  Jacob Petrisko and Quintin Bynum completed the second game with work out of the bullpen.

Rose-Hulman improved to 9-5 on the season.  Day two of the final Rose-Hulman Invitational of 2019 takes place Sunday at Art Nehf Field, with games against MSOE (11 am) and Carroll (5 pm).
