Softball Completes Doubleheader Sweep of MacMurray on D-III Week Night

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on strong pitching and timely hitting to earn 2-1 and 3-2 victories over MacMurray College in the 2019 softball home opener on Tuesday at the Engineer Softball Field.

In the opener, Emily Struble tossed a complete-game four-hitter with nine strikeouts and no earned runs allowed in a 2-1 win.  Struble also had a single and an RBI offensively.

Christina Gray led the offense with her first career home run.  Jessica Thuer added two hits, including a double, and Rose-Hulman relied on runs in the first and fourth innings for the victory.

The game ended in dramatic fashion, as Struble struck out MacMurray's third place hitter with the bases loaded to preserve the 2-1 win.

In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman scored in the first, second and fifth innings to pick up a 3-2 win.  Struble went the distance again in the pitching circle, allowing just two earned runs in the last inning with four strikeouts.

Struble also led the offense with two singles and one run scored.  Maddie Struble added a double and an RBI, and Angela Boulboulle joined Gray with a single and one run scored in the nightcap.

Rose-Hulman improved to 3-9 on the season, while MacMurray dropped to 1-12.  The Fightin' Engineers open the HCAC schedule at home against Defiance College on Saturday afternoon.
