Fightin' Engineers Fall In Both Ends of Doubleheader Against Defiance

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dropped both games of their doubleheader against Defiance College on Saturday, 4/6.  This puts the Engineers at 4-10 overall and 0-2 in the HCAC this season.  The team will compete next on the road tomorrow Sunday, 4/7 against Eureka at 12 PM and 2 PM.  

Game 1- Rose-Hulman 5, Defiance 8

In the first game of the doubleheader the Engineers were able to put together an early lead.  Defiance was able to bring in one run in the top of the third to get on the board first.  The Engineers answered with two runs to take the lead in the bottom of the third by Christina Gray and Gabrielle Davidson.  

The Yellow Jackets were able to score a run in the top of the fourth to take the lead 3-2.  The Engineers put together an impressive bottom of the fifth scoring three runs from Emily Struble, Angela Boulboulle, and Jessica Thuer to jump ahead of Defiance 5-3.   

The Engineers had a difficult time holding off the Yellow Jackets in the top of the seventh.  They were able to put up five runs to take back the lead from the Engineers.  Definace would walk away with the win in game one with a final score of 8-5.  Emily Struble pitched the entire seven innings for the Engineers recording one strikeout and allowing 15 hits and 8 runs.  

Game 2- Rose-Hulman 5, Defiance 9

The second game of the day looked to be a competitive contest.  Defiance was able to put up three runs in the top of the first to jump ahead early.  The Engineers were able to bounce back in the bottom of the third to put together four runs by Maddie Struble, Boulboulle, Bryly Shipman, and Thuer to take the lead 4-3.  

In the fifth inning the Yellow Jackets were able to tie the game at 4-4.  The Engineers were able to regain the lead with a run by Maddie Struble in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-4.  

The Engineers struggled to close out the Yellow jackets in the top of the sixth as Defiance put together five runs to defeat the Engineers with a final score of 9-5.  Emily Struble pitched all seven innings for the Engineers with two strikeouts only allowing 12 hits and nine runs.
