Strong Pitching Leads Rose-Hulman to Tuesday Sweep at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on two dominant pitching performances to sweep Earlham College 3-0 and 6-1 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday evening.

In the opener, senior Trevor Dallio, senior Stone Brogan and freshman Brian Pershing combined on a five-hitter in the victory.  Dallio allowed four hits with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work, Brogan allowed one hit with one strikeout in 1.2 innings, and Pershing picked up the final three outs for his third save.

Offensively, Rose-Hulman scored twice in the first inning and once in the sixth to support the strong pitching effort.  Conner Shipley and Davis Robeson led the game one offense with two hits each. Shipley had a single and a double with one run scored, while Robeson added a single, double and two runs scored.  David Burnside added two RBIs and a double.

In the nightcap, sophomore Trever Bruno and senior Dan Connolly allowed no earned runs in a 6-1 victory.  Bruno tossed 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Connolly did not allow an earned run in his 1.2 inning stint to complete the win.

The Rose-Hulman offense had two timely rallies, with four runs in the fifth innings and two in the sixth.  Pershing provided the key hit of the day with a two-run triple among two hits with two runs scored.  Harris Camp paced the team with three hits and added one RBI.  Ryan Stachowski pitched in with two singles and scored twice.

Rose-Hulman improved to 14-8 overall and leads the HCAC at 4-0 in league games, while Earlham dropped to 11-14 and 3-5 in conference contests.  The Fightin' Engineers return to non-conference action with games at Chicago on Wednesday and Dominican (Ill.) on Thursday.
