Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener 1-0 Over North Central (Ill.)

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--  The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers men's soccer team was able to come away with a hard fought win in their home opener against North Central on Friday, August 30.  The Engineers were able to score an early goal to take the 1-0 lead and secure the win in their first game of the 2019 season.

The first half proved that the match would be highly competitive.  Rose-Hulman maintained control early as they outshot North Central 5-3 in the first period.  Eric Kirby was able to get to the back of the net in the 11th minute after an assist from Wyatt McKibbon and Sam Alvares to put the Engineers up 1-0.  Both teams continued to compete at a high level in the second half.

North Central look to even the score by outshooting the Engineers 6-2 in the second half, but Rose-Hulman's strong defensive effort kept the Cardinals off the board.  Goalie Pascal Schlee was able to record his first shutout of the season with four saves.

North Central outshot the Engineers 9-7 in a competitive contest.  Brevin Lacy and Alvares led the Rose-Hulman offense with two shots each.

Rose-Hulman (1-0) will compete next on Tuesday, September 3 hosting Greenville University at 7:00 PM.
