Rose-Hulman Tops SMWC 5-0 in Crosstown Women's Soccer Matchup

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored four first half goals and relied on strong defense to top St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 5-0 in a crosstown matchup of women's soccer programs on Friday night at the Engineer Intramural Field.

Maggie Sheerin recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Fightin' Engineer offense.  Sheerin scored two goals in the first half and added the final goal of the match.

Elle Ogden and Lane Lawrence also scored first half goals for Rose-Hulman.  Jessica Wells provided two assists, and Maddy Twetten and Ogden had one assist each.

Rose-Hulman controlled the action in the contest, outshooting the Pomeroys 33-3 overall.  Megan Benefiel tallied 18 saves to anchor the St. Mary-of-the-Woods defensive effort.

Sheerin and Sydney Hohl led the Rose-Hulman offense with six shots each.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 0-2.  The Fightin' Engineers travel to Principia on Tuesday, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods hits the road for Eureka on Monday.
