TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for 15 event victories against Valparaiso University on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center Natatorium.
The men's squad won 12 events to capture a 186-76 team victory over the Crusaders. Rose-Hulman won three women's events in a 201-72 team loss to Valparaiso.
William Kemp led the individual performances with three event wins. Kemp won the 50-backstroke (25.52), 100-backstroke (55.02) and 200-individual medley (2:01.73) to help Rose-Hulman jump to an early lead in the meet.
Two-event winners included Jared Brown in the 50-freestyle (21.49) and the 50-butterfly (23.44), and Derick Miller in the 100-butterfly (52.11) and 100-breaststroke (1:00.80).
Men's individual winners also included Brendan King in the 200-freestyle (1:48.16); Dutch Kipp in the 100-freestyle (48.57) and Ethan Park in the 50-breaststroke (28.39).
On the women's side, the Fightin' Engineers swept the two diving events and Elisa Weber won the 100-breaststroke in 1:13.22.  Michelle Reese won 1-meter diving with 220.95 points, and Michaela Kivett scored added a victory in 3-meter diving (243.81).
Rose-Hulman also swept both men's relay victories on the evening. Kemp, Miller, Brown and Kipp won the 200-medley relay in 1:38.38. The team of Kipp, King, Zach Tate and Brown earned a 200-freestyle win in 1:27.00.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Friday January 24, hosting Franklin College in the Senior Night Meet at the Sports and Recreation Center.
