Track & Field Teams Finish 1st, 4th in Home Friday Invitational

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track and field squad won the six-team Friday Night Spikes Invitational, while the women placed fourth at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Rose-Hulman scored 160 points to outdistance Millikin at 114 points in the men's team scoring.  On the women's side, St. Norbert picked up top honors, followed by Campbellsville, Millikin and Rose-Hulman in the six-team event.

One school record fell in the meet, as Mary-Helen Shomba took another .08 seconds off her own 60-meter hurdles school record.  Shomba ran a time of 9.05 seconds to easily pick up the event win.  Dara Smith earned the other women's event victory by winning the high jump (5' 2 1/4").

On the men's side, Nathan Schrader won both throwing events to lead the Fightin' Engineer performers.  Schrader swept both the shot put (47' 6 1/2") and the weight throw (54' 1 3/4").  Other field event winners included Kyle Brownell in the high jump (6' 4 3/4"); Cameron Prisby in the pole vault (15' 0"); and Tim Youndt in the triple jump (43' 9").

Running event winners included Matthew Stevenot in the mile (4:25.59) and Kristian Zadlo in the 400-meter dash (51.47).  The 4-x-200 meter team of Dawson Allen, Zadlo, Youndt and Stephen Payne claimed the remaining first-place finish in a time of 1:34.33.

Rose-Hulman returns home for its annual Senior Night Meet next Friday when the Engineer Invitational comes to the Sports and Recreation Center.
