Women's Track & Field 1st, Men Place 2nd in 10-Team Senior Night Meet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the women's team title at the 2020 Engineer Track and Field Invitational, while the men had a strong second-place performance on Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.

The women outdistanced a field of nine teams with 110 points.  Kentucky Wesleyan finished second with 96, and Campbellsville was third with 60 points to lead the team scoring.

On the men's side, Wabash won the meet with 132 points and Rose-Hulman was second with 94.  Kentucky Wesleyan came in third among 10 teams at the meet.

Both the women's and men's teams had four wins on the evening.  Individual women's winners included Claire Perkins in the pole vault (10' 2 3/4"); Christina Rogers in the 400 (1:02.18); and Mary-Helen Shomba in the 60-hurdles (9.16).  The 4-x-200 meter relay team of Shomba, Katrina Agustin, Emily Peterson and Rogers also won in 1:51.54.

The men were led by Nathan Schrader with a sweep of the shot put (48' 10 3/4") and weight throw (54' 4 1/2").  Cameron Prisby also won the pole vault with a personal best 15' 1 3/4", and Kristian Zadlo won the 400-meter dash in 51.78 seconds.

Both teams also had two runner-up performances on Friday night.  Shomba was second in the 200 (27.14) and the 4-x-400 team of Peterson, Clare Bruns, Lois Cheatham and Rogers recorded a time of 4:18.73 for the women's runner-up efforts.  Dawson Allen was second in the 60 (7.18 seconds) and Kyle Brownell came home second in the high jump (6' 4 3/4") for the men.

Third-place women's performers included Agustin in the 60 (8.29); Kaia Johnson in the 3000 (11:10.98); Sydney Larson in the triple jump (31' 8 1/4"); Dara Smith in both the 400 (1:03.87) and high jump (5' 0 1/4"); and Cassie Utley in the shot put (35' 11 1/4").  Both the men's 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 relay teams were third, along with Zadlo in the pole vault (13' 0 1/4").

Rose-Hulman returns to action with meets at DePauw next Friday and Illinois Wesleyan next Saturday.
